Blain's sends 850 POs via AS2, SFTP, or VAN. Each PO includes store-level ship-to details and required delivery windows
Confirm acceptance, item availability, and ship dates for every line. Late acknowledgments affect your OTIF scorecard.
All cartons require compliant UCC-128 labels with correct ASN reference data before shipment.
ASN must be sent before or the moment goods leave your facility. Missing ASNs can result in refused deliveries and chargebacks.
Submit one 810 invoice per purchase order. Invoice must match PO quantities and pricing exactly to avoid reconciliation chargebacks.
Farm and outdoor products spike in spring/fall. Blain's sends high-volume POs ahead of season; your 855 acknowledgment must reflect real capacity.
Equipment subject to EPA or CARB regulations must include compliance documentation, which can be referenced in the 856 ASN remarks.
For LTL and truckload shipments, the Bill of Lading number is mandatory in the EDI 856. PRO numbers should be added once assigned.
Confirm ship dates per SKU in the 855. Blain's plans store receiving windows by line — order-level dates alone are insufficient.
SBSA's automation handles volume spikes without manual intervention — your ERP is updated and ASNs generated as shipments are booked.
Blain's automotive POs often carry year/make/model data in the 850. SBSA maps fitment fields to your ERP product catalog automatically.
Automotive lines can contain dozens of part numbers per PO. Each line must be acknowledged individually with correct availability and ship dates.
Blain's expects ASN to reflect both inner-pack and master-pack hierarchy for automotive parts. GS1-128 labels must match ASN hierarchy exactly.
Some automotive items are eligible for cross-dock routing to individual stores. Routing type should be confirmed in the 856 segment data.
Complex part catalogs are mapped once during onboarding and updated automatically — no manual part-number lookups per PO.
Blain's Farm & Fleet sources across five major supplier categories. Each has distinct SKU patterns, packaging requirements, and seasonal rhythms — SBSA handles all of them from a single integration platform.
Tools, hardware, home goods, storage, and seasonal items. Standard EDI workflow with GS1-128 carton labeling and one invoice per PO. High replenishment frequency through the year.
Animal feed, fencing, seed, fertilizer, and crop protection. Highly seasonal with compressed ordering windows. BOL numbers required in ASN for bulk freight; EPA compliance documentation may apply.
Mowers, snow blowers, generators, and chainsaws. Spring and fall demand spikes with substantial pre-season stocking orders. Equipment may require CARB/EPA compliance markings in shipping documentation.
Batteries, fluids, filters, tires, and accessories. High SKU count with fitment-level attributes in the 850 PO. Inner-pack and master-pack hierarchy must be reflected in the ASN. SBSA maps year/make/model fitment data to your catalog automatically.
Hunting and fishing gear, pet food and supplies, workwear, and footwear. Apparel and footwear require size/color matrix support in the 850 and 855. Pet food volumes can be substantial — pallet-level labeling and LTL routing apply.
Blain's Farm & Fleet supports three EDI transmission protocols. SBSA Technology configures, certifies, and manages your connection — your team never touches the setup.
Direct Internet EDI
AS2 (Applicability Statement 2) is a direct, encrypted internet protocol and the most widely used connection method for Blain's suppliers. It provides real-time transmission acknowledgment (MDN) and end-to-end encryption without a middleman network.
Secure File Transfer Protocol
SFTP provides secure file-based EDI exchange over SSH. Blain's may specify an SFTP endpoint for certain supplier profiles. SBSA configures your SFTP credentials, folder structure, and automated polling schedule so files are picked up and delivered without manual intervention.
Value-Added Network
A VAN (Value-Added Network) acts as a secure mailbox between trading partners. If your existing EDI setup already uses a VAN, SBSA can route Blain's Farm & Fleet transactions through your current network, minimizing setup changes and leveraging your existing infrastructure investment.
SBSA Technology supports core and supplemental Blain's Farm & Fleet EDI Integration EDI documents. Critical transactions are highlighted because they carry the highest compliance risk when transmitted incorrectly or late.

InboundSBSA Technology integrates your Blain's Farm & Fleet EDI workflow directly into your ERP or accounting system. As an Intuit Silver Partner, we offer deep native integration with both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Enterprise — plus connections to all major ERP platforms.
SBSA's QuickBooks Online connector maps Blain's 850 POs directly into QuickBooks as Sales Orders or Purchase Orders, depending on your workflow. Invoices created in QuickBooks are automatically converted to EDI 810 and transmitted to Blain's — no copy-and-paste, no manual entry.
For suppliers running QuickBooks Enterprise — including hosted (Right Networks) and local desktop installations — SBSA provides a direct integration layer that reads and writes QuickBooks data without requiring manual exports. Advanced Inventory, Manufacturing, and Wholesale/Distribution editions all supported.
If your ERP or WMS isn't listed, SBSA builds a custom integration. We've connected EDI to hundreds of systems — flat-file imports, AS/400 mainframes, proprietary ERPs, and everything in between.
Manual EDI is error-prone and slow. SBSA handles the entire compliance workflow automatically — your team focuses on fulfillment, not document management.

Common questions from suppliers beginning their Blain's Farm & Fleet EDI compliance journey.
The core required transactions are the EDI 850 (Purchase Order), EDI 855 (PO Acknowledgment), EDI 856 (Advance Ship Notice), and EDI 810 (Invoice). Additional transactions — such as the 820 Payment Remittance, 846 Inventory Inquiry, and 753/754 Routing Request/Response — may apply depending on your supplier agreement and product category. SBSA supports all of these from a single integration.
Blain's Farm & Fleet requires the EDI 855 to be returned within 1 business day of PO creation. The acknowledgment must confirm item availability and ship dates at the line level — not just the order level. SBSA monitors the incoming 850 queue continuously and generates the 855 from your ERP data automatically to ensure you never miss this window.
Blain's Farm & Fleet is strict on ASN compliance. Any shipment received at a Blain's location without a valid ASN on file — or where the ASN arrives after the physical goods — can be refused or subject to a chargeback. This is one of the costliest compliance failures a supplier can experience. SBSA transmits the 856 automatically the moment your shipment is confirmed in your WMS or ERP, ensuring the ASN always precedes the truck.
Yes. All shipments to Blain's Farm & Fleet require GS1-128 (UCC-128) compliant carton labels. The label content must match the ASN exactly — including carton ID, item numbers, quantities, and PO reference. SBSA generates GS1-128 label data as part of the 856 ASN workflow, compatible with Zebra, Honeywell, and all standard thermal label printers.
Yes — and this is one of our most common setups for Blain's suppliers. As an Intuit Silver Partner, SBSA offers deep native integration with both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Enterprise. Blain's 850 POs flow directly into QuickBooks as Sales Orders, and invoices created in QuickBooks are automatically converted to EDI 810 and transmitted to Blain's. The QuickBooks Enterprise integration works with Advanced Inventory, Manufacturing, and Wholesale/Distribution editions, including hosted versions on Right Networks.
Blain's Farm & Fleet sends heavy pre-season POs for farm, lawn, outdoor power, and sporting goods categories — spring and fall volumes can spike significantly above baseline. SBSA's automation scales with volume automatically. There is no manual processing step that creates a bottleneck during peak periods: POs are parsed and routed to your ERP, 855s are generated and transmitted, and ASNs are created as shipments are booked — all without your team intervening at the document level.
Blain's Farm & Fleet supports AS2, SFTP, and VAN for EDI transmission. AS2 is the most widely used protocol among current Blain's suppliers due to its real-time delivery acknowledgment (MDN) and lack of per-transaction VAN costs. SBSA handles full AS2 setup, certificate management, and testing for trading partner certification — your team does not need any EDI technical knowledge to get connected.
